Experience in Education Sector
FSD-AFRICA has remained engaged in education sector since it was established in the year 2017. The organization has therefore worked with a number of primary schools especially in South Sudan, Parents Teachers Associations (PTAs) and School Management Committees (SMCs) in different project areas in supporting girls’ education through scholastic material support. FSD-AFRICA has also provided education to vulnerable women/girls, men/boys and youth through vocational training in different skills like; tailoring, bed sheet designing, basic auto‒mechanics as well as computer, catering, salon/hair dressing/cutting, plumbing, radio/telephone repairs, electricity and carpentry/joinery. To ensure sustainability of programmes/or project and effective operations; FSD-AFRICA always uses strategies such as the true community participation and the public private partnerships and the formation and strengthening capacities of PTAs & SMCs
FSD-AFRICA has established one vocational skills development/or training centre in Nimule Town in South Sudan and a number of functional adult literacy and numeracy learning centres in different parts of Pageri County in Eastern Equatoria State. In 2020 FSD-AFRICA has graduated 194 trainees in various skills (F=154 & M=40).
Experience in Gender & Women Empowerment Issues
FSD-AFRICA is also engaged in promoting gender equality in programing in order to address women empowerment issues since its inception in in the 2018. The main focus is particularly on the issues of violence against women (VAW) and also girls. Over the period of 5 years of rich experience of working on with vulnerable women including girls; FSD-AFRICA has well increased its conceptual understanding and knowledge of the issues of marginalized/vulnerable women/girls to domestic violence. During its work on gender issues; FSD-AFRICA has worked with a number of critical stakeholders and partners like the UNWomen who have given great support in terms of training as for as addressing the issues of gender and women empowerment are concerned. For example, FSD-AFRICA worked closely UNWomen and the Ministry of Gender, Child Welfare and Social Development, government of South Sudan to increase awareness and sensitize the local communities and administration for addressing gender issues. Working with police and security officers was another successful approach.
Experience in Responding Natural and Manmade Disasters
FSD-AFRICA responds actively to natural as well as manmade disasters and emergencies such as flood, famine and conflicts. FSD-AFRICA has been responding to various humanitarian emergencies since 2017. The organization has thus well skilled itself in designing and implementing the relief and early recovery interventions, FSDAFRICA has provided various relief and early recovery services to over 100,000 households/families across South Sudan.
Experience in capacity building
Building capacity/or development of staff is the cross-cutting theme for all core programs staff and stakeholders. FSD-AFRICA has been involved in capacity building activities since year 2017. The organization has conducted a number of training workshops for school teachers, PTAs, school management committees, local community leaders, and project teams of various projects. Over the period of 6 years; FSD-AFRICA has greatly developed its capacity in designing and in conducting different nature training and capacity building events for different groups and stakeholders. FSDAFRICA designs and conducts training which cater for the capacity building needs of its different beneficiaries and communities as well as project staffs.
